Summer classes

4 week session - June 3-28

Summer dance classes are a wonderful way to stay active and learn new skills while having fun. Whether you're a beginner looking to try something new or an experienced dancer wanting to enhance your technique, there is something for everyone in our summer dance program. Grab your dancing shoes and get ready to twirl, kick, leap and groove your way through summer with the rhythmic beats and positive energy of our summer dance program!

BALLET 
Ages 5-8 Mondays 6:30-7:00 Umatilla
Ages 9-12 Mondays 6:30-7:00 Mt Dora
Ages Teen Wednesdays 7:00-7:30 Mt Dora

Students will develop a foundation in ballet technique, focusing on correct body alignment, placement, and movement quality. Through a structured progression of exercises at the barre and in the center, students will learn ballet vocabulary, including positions, steps, and combinations. Join us if you are interested in exploring the timeless elegance and discipline of ballet.

JAZZ 
Ages 5-8 Mondays 7:00-7:30 Umatilla 
Ages 9-12 Mondays 7:00-7:30 Mt Dora
Ages Teens Thursday 7:00-7:30 Umatilla

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of jazz dance, focusing on technique, style, and expression. Students will learn a variety of jazz dance movements including isolations, turns, jumps, and kicks, while also exploring different jazz dance styles. Through warm-ups, across-the-floor exercises, and choreography, students will develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and musicality. Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment, dynamics, and performance quality, as students work to master jazz dance vocabulary and develop their own unique style. 

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY 
Ages 5-8 Tuesdays 6:30-7:00 Umatilla OR Wednesdays 7:00-7:30 Mt Dora
Ages 9-12 Wednesdays 6:00-6:30 Umatilla
Ages Teens Thursday 6:00-6:30 Umatilla

This course offers a dynamic exploration of contemporary dance, focusing on freedom of expression, creativity, and emotions of lyrics. Students will explore a wide range of movement techniques and styles, drawing inspiration from modern dance, ballet, jazz, and other forms of movement vocabulary. Through improvisation, choreographic exercises, and guided exploration, students will develop their own unique movement vocabulary and artistic voice. Emphasis will be placed on fluidity, connectivity, and expression through movement, as students learn to communicate ideas and emotions through their bodies.

TAP
Ages 5-8 Tuesdays 7:00-7:30 Umatilla

Ages Teens Thursday 6:30-7:00 Umatilla

This course introduces students to the rhythmic art form of tap dance. Students will learn basic tap technique, including shuffles, flaps, cramp rolls, and time steps, while developing coordination, musicality, and precision. Through a combination of warm-up exercises, across-the-floor patterns, and choreography, students will explore various styles of tap dance, from traditional to contemporary. Emphasis will be placed on creating clear sounds, executing precise rhythms, and expressing musicality. 

MUSICAL THEATRE 
Ages 5-8 Wednesdays 6:30-7:00 Mt Dora 
Ages 9-12 Wednesdays 7:00-7:30 Umatilla
Ages Teens Tuesdays 6:30-7:00 Mt Dora

This course provides students with an introduction to the dynamic world of musical theater performance. Students will explore acting, singing, and dancing techniques through the lens of musical theater repertoire. Through scene work, vocal exercises, and choreography, students will learn how to integrate these disciplines seamlessly to create compelling characters and tell engaging stories on stage. Emphasis will be placed on developing performance skills, stage presence, and ensemble work, as students collaborate to bring musical numbers and scenes to life. 

HIP HOP 
Ages 5-8 Mondays 6:00-6:30 Umatilla OR Thursdays 6:30-7:00 Mt Dora

This course immerses students in the energetic and urban world of hip hop dance, exploring its rich history, culture, and movement vocabulary. Students will learn foundational hip hop techniques while  incorporating elements of street dance and freestyle improvisation. Through warm-up exercises, drills, and choreography, students will develop strength, agility, musicality, and personal style. Emphasis will be placed on groove, rhythm, and attitude, as students learn to express themselves authentically through movement.
